Tourism Minister Elaborates on the Objective of the Upcoming Bali Visitor Tax

Posted on By No Comments on Tourism Minister Elaborates on the Objective of the Upcoming Bali Visitor Tax

Sandiaga Uno – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy – advocated on February 5, 2024 for the implementation of an upcoming USD $10 tax or IDR 150.000 tax to foreign tourists visiting Bali.

This tax was introduced to encourage high-quality, sustainable tourism throughout the region. Sandiaga Uno stressed the commitment to sustainable travel during a press conference held in Jakarta. She explained that the tax revenues would be used for waste management, to preserve Balinese cultures, and to uphold local customs.

This fee will apply to all foreign tourists who enter Indonesia and visit Bali, whether or not they return after leaving the province. Certain foreign nationals are exempted from the tax, including those who hold KITAS/KITAP visas (residence permits), diplomatic visas or service visas and ship crew.

It is possible that transit tourists from Bali who are heading to another province may need special attention. Adjustments may be needed. A tax policy will be implemented on 14 February to encourage sustainable tourism and minimize the financial impact for tourists, especially those in the upper middle class segment.
