A popular Spring Break location, the resort city at the southern tip Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula is known for its beautiful beaches, water activities and vibrant nightlife. Many visitors are unaware that, although Los Cabos’ beaches are beautiful, they are not ideal for swimming.
Many of Cabo’s beaches are not suitable for swimming due to the strong waves of the Sea of Cortez and a powerful undercurrent. If you’re looking for a beach that is calm and has water mild enough to swim in, then here are the best swimming beaches in Los Cabos.
Medano Beach
The beach is considered the most popular swimming area in the region. It has many restaurants, vendors, lounge rentals, and calm waters for swimming. Many beach clubs are located in the area where you can rent water sports equipment.
Chileno Beach
This beach, located in the hotel area, is popular among locals because it’s a more low-key location. This calm bay offers snorkeling, swimming and amenities like palapas and portable toilets. There is also a restaurant nearby. Snorkelers can see lobsters, seaurchins, and even stingrays.
Palmilla Beach
The crescent-shaped beach is worth the effort. The beach is a great place for snorkeling, swimming and has a few palapas to provide shade. There are also umbrella rentals and vendors. Due to its remoteness, you will need to bring a picnic and a meal with you.
Santa Maria Beach
The waters of Los Cabos are home to a variety of coral reefs that can be explored. This beach is also good for swimming, but it can get crowded because of its popularity. Tour companies often dock here for snorkeling excursions.
Cannery beaches
Coral Negro, Balconcito and Coral Negro are arguably the best beaches in Los Cabos. This beach is located just outside of the marina, before you reach Land’s End. It features large boulders and calm waters. This beach is popular for snorkeling, but is also a great place to spend a relaxing day and enjoy the water.
