Survey Reveals Hotel Robberies as Primary Concern in Cancun

Posted on By No Comments on Survey Reveals Hotel Robberies as Primary Concern in Cancun

You don’t have to worry about being robbed on the beach. A satisfaction survey conducted by Marketing Consultants revealed that you should be on the lookout for your belongings being stolen in Cancun hotels.

Ana Cecilia Quevedo of the consulting firm shared that the thefts at lodging accommodations were the top concern for visitors.

In a survey conducted at airports, nine percent of travelers who were leaving the country rated safety as “unsatisfactory,” or “bad.”

The main crime that tourists reported during their stay was theft. Travelers also reported thefts in the airport as a second-place crime.

Statistics show that Cancun visitors were victims of over three thousand crimes just in January 2024, with only 18% of victims reporting to the police.

Hoteliers should install more cameras in their establishments to protect the belongings of guests, according to Quevedo.

19% of respondents also considered local transport “bad” and “very poor”, 16 % rated tour operators as “bad”, 14 % said that the airport was “bad” and “very poor”, while 15 %) said sanitary measures were “bad”.

The crime that occurs in hotels is not the sole problem. Take a look at what happened last week to three young American Spring Breakers staying at the Ocean Dream Cancun Hotel.

After dinner, the guests walked to the beach of their hotel and were met by four men in camo and police uniforms.

After a ridiculous accusation, the men gave the terrified tourists three options.

You can leave the country and go to the airport before you get your things. You can either go to jail and that won’t make you feel comfortable …” Or you can give us each $300, one parent told Fox News.

The girls were forced to give $900 as extortion.

The women were horrified to learn that many other spring breakers in Cancun had experienced the same thing.

The father stated that “this is something that occurs all the time in that country.” They saw American children checking in and they knew they had money.

Former FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker recommends that you be “very, very vigilant” and research your accommodation carefully for any potential red flags. She says that in the event of a crime, you should contact the nearest US consulate.

According to Marketing Consultants, Cancun is expected to welcome 6M – 6.6M tourists in the downtown area and hotel zone by 2024.

The firm says that there is a lot of work to be done in order to improve the perceptions and services for tourists.
