Reasons Why Norway Deserves a Spot on Your Winter Bucket List

Posted on By No Comments on Reasons Why Norway Deserves a Spot on Your Winter Bucket List

Enjoy the magical winter wonderland that is Norway. The pristine landscapes are transformed into a white paradise. Explore the fjords and enjoy winter activities such as dog sledding or skiing. Norway’s winter is a time of unparalleled beauty and outdoor adventures. It also offers a warm culture.

Why you should visit Norway in winter.

Enjoy the Winter Fjord Scenery

Winter in Fjord Norway is a unique and tranquil experience. The scenery, which is often covered with snow, offers a different perspective to the pictures taken during summer. While winter has fewer activities to offer, it’s still possible to find affordable lodging if you plan ahead.

Norwegian Christmas Markets

In December, Norwegian cities host their own Christmas markets, which combine traditional sounds, sights and smells to create an atmosphere of celebration.

The Roros Christmas Fair, and Baerums Verk in Oslo are two of the most unique markets. Winter travel in Norway is more affordable than summer travel.

Norwegian National Pastimes

Cross-country skiing is more affordable in Norway than in Western Europe. Ski trails are accessible from major cities, and not only in ski resorts. Rental ski equipment is also cheaper.

Public transportation can take you to trails like the Nordmarka and Bymarka, both in Oslo. For more information about the trails, visit the Norwegian Trekking Association ( DNT).

Norway’s Winter Affordability

Hotel, attraction, and restaurant prices in Norway increase during peak season. Winter costs are lower, except in ski resorts.

The favorable exchange rate has increased in the last ten years from approximately 5.5 kroner to approximately 10.5 Kroner this winter. This gives international tourists a great opportunity to visit Denmark at a very affordable price.

Aurora Borealis: a pursuit of the Aurora Borealis

In February and March you can see the best aurora borealis in northern Norway, especially during the evening darkness. You can also see them in November and January, but there will be more clouds during these months.

There are guided tours available for those interested in taking in the spectacle, or just photography. These tours can take you to the best viewing locations, far from city lights and light pollution. They are often led by locals who have extensive knowledge of the area.
