The seaweed sargassum is washing up along the east coast of Florida, which has caused concern among beachgoers. This seaweed is a part of a huge seaweed blob floating from the Atlantic Ocean. It could cover miles of beaches. It is expected that the influx of Sargassum will continue for a few months.
Oscar Vasquez has owned a condo in Miami Beach for over 20 years. He claims to have never seen so much sargassum this early in the season.
Vasquez stated that there are some parts of the beach with so much sargassum along the shoreline, it is difficult and undesirable to enter the water.
The seaweed that covers the beaches is removed with great effort by special tractors , but it usually returns the following morning. Sargassum, which is intended to be used as filler for buildings, is collected and piled up along the coast.
