According to state statistics, this Pueblo Magico in Mexico welcomed more than 1.6 million passengers by air or cruise in the first quarter of the year.

Magical Towns are only designated as such if they have a unique history, carnivals, special food, and great shopping. This is the case with Cozumel island in the Mexican Caribbean.

Only in January and February of this year, 155.651 tourists went through the airport’s customs, which is a 33 percent increase over the same period last year.

In another industry, in the first three month of 2024, a hotel occupied rate of 85 percent.

The Governor Mara Lezama stated that Cozumel was a popular destination for both foreign and local tourists. She said, “We have very good numbers throughout the state, and in Cozumel. Of course, our visitors’ confidence is confirmed. Overnight tourism is growing. Hotel occupancy is increasing. This is reflected in the pockets of people.”

As of today this island can be reached by non-stop flight from nine US cities and two Canadian ones, including CDMX Monterrey, and Guadalajara.

Travelers use other modes of transportation as well. 452 ships brought in 1,456,724 passengers from January to March. This is an 18 percent increase compared to 2023.

Mexico is expected to receive more than 9,3 million cruise ship guests this year. This represents a 2.4 percent increase over 2023.

Miguel Torruco Marques reported that Cozumel Port is expected to receive the largest number of cruise vessels in Mexico in 2024. will account for 34.8 percent.

Things are going well so far. The destination has welcomed 958 527 cruise passengers in only January and Febraury, making it 4th busiest destination for cruises on the planet. With almost 3 million arrivals each year.

The majority of international visitors are from Europe, including the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, the United States and the Bahamas. They spend an average of $80 per person, per day.

Business is expanding. Royal Caribbean, world’s largest cruise line, announced that a world-class Beach Club will open on the west coast of the island by 2026.
