Hawaii Governor Urges Travelers to Return to Maui and Its Unaffected Areas

Posted on By No Comments on Hawaii Governor Urges Travelers to Return to Maui and Its Unaffected Areas

While Hawai’i is working to recover from the devastating and deadly wildfires which swept through western Maui in recent weeks, government representatives are encouraging travelers to travel unaffected islands or areas of Maui.

The Governor Josh Green, along with the Hawaii Tourism Board, held a Press Conference in this week.

As we saw with the pandemic outbreak, the decisions we make can impact everyone on the island. We’re telling people to avoid West Maui. “The other parts of Maui, however, are still safe ,” Green said to reporters.

Green stated that it was safe to travel throughout the rest of Hawaii, and the Hawaii Tourism Authority also recommended that travelers heed the instructions given by the governor.

Maui Tourism Authority encourages tourists to visit Kahului and Wailuku but warns against visiting Lhain, “as search and recovery efforts are ongoing”.

The Maui Strong Website , created by the State of Hawaii provides the latest news for those affected by fires.

Celebrities and organizations launched a social media campaign to discourage people from traveling to Maui after the devastating wildfires. According to newly amended state guidelines, visitors are welcome in certain areas of Maui as well as the other islands.

Hawaii Tourism Authority stated in its report entitled “Benefits Of Hawaii’s Tourism Economy” that in 2019 more than 10 millions tourists visited Hawaii, spending $17.75billion. Nearly $2 billion was collected in state taxes as a result.

Why travel to Maui in spite of the wildfires that are raging?

Here are four reasons why you should consider visiting Maui in Hawaii.

  • Maui’s Stunning Natural Beauty Maui has a stunning landscape, with pristine beaches and lush rainforests. It also boasts volcanic mountains. The Road to Hana is a natural paradise for nature lovers, with its scenic vistas and waterfalls.
  • Diverse activities: The island has a wide range of activities to suit all travelers. You can snorkel on vibrant coral reefs or hike up to Haleakala summit for sunrise or sunset. Water sports such as surfing and windsurfing are also available.
  • Rich Hawaiian Cultural Experience: Maui offers a chance to experience Hawaiian culture. Visit cultural centers to learn about ancient Hawaiian traditions and visit historic sites such as Lahaina.
  • Whale watching: Maui’s warm waters are ideal for whale-watching, especially in the winter when humpbacks migrate there. Seeing these majestic creatures breaching and playing is an unforgettable experience.
