Daily Updates on Seaweed Conditions at Mexico’s Beaches: Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and More

Posted on By No Comments on Daily Updates on Seaweed Conditions at Mexico’s Beaches: Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and More

In 2024 sargassum season of seaweed is expected to begin earlier than normal. This follows the trend that began in 2023, when the season started in February. The season usually begins in the early spring due to rising ocean temperatures which encourage seaweed growth.

Cozumel is one of the beaches that has high levels of algae. Other areas affected include Sian Ka’an and Tulum.

It is difficult to accurately predict which beaches and how much they will be affected, because conditions can change daily, and sometimes without warning.

April 15 – April 16 – Another wave of Sargassum is expected to arrive in the coming weeks

Mexican officials are expecting another seaweed to hit the beaches in popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.
