The Indonesian government has set an ambitious target of 14 million foreign tourists arriving in Indonesia by 2024. Bali is expected to contribute approximately 7 millions.
Tjok bagus Pemayun is the head of Bali Provincial Tourism Office and is confident that this goal will be achieved, particularly since foreign tourists are expected to exceed 5 million in 2023.
According to data from the Bali Tourism Department, as of December 26th, 2023, a total of 5,232.751 foreign tourists had visited Bali. Most of these tourists were from Australia.
Pemayun acknowledged that the tourism recovery on Seribu Pura Island was also rapid, exceeding government and stakeholder expectations. He wants to see an increase in tourism in 2024 with an emphasis placed on quality. This is defined by increased spending and longer stays.
Geopolitical events on a global scale, like the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Palestine or the Ukraine-Russian war, may have an impact on foreign tourists visiting Bali. Pemayun calls on the Balinese to maintain an environment conducive to the government’s goals for tourism.
