A levy for foreign tourists of Rp150000 per person (roughly US$9.50), was introduced on February 14, 2024. While this was passed in February, Tourism and Creative Economic Minister Sandiaga Salhuddin uno stated that only 40% tourists had paid the tourist tax.
On Monday, 25 March, Minister Uno revealed this information and said that the ministry would increase its dissemination of information to recover the entire ley amount.
The Ministry hopes to disseminate information about the sector to all travelers by partnering with airlines, ministries, and other prominent players in the tourism industry. The Ministry will also be sharing the information with Indonesia’s major tourism markets, including Australia, Singapore and India.
Bali’s Tourism Office Tjok Bagus Pemayun says that while the focus is on international entry points, other routes and other entrance gates are not covered.
Booths have been suggested to increase the collection rate of the levy at the domestic arrival routes in Jakarta and other destinations. The levy money will be used to protect culture, nature and waste management in Bali.
