Bali Authorities Provide Clarity on Exemptions from New Tourist Fee Effective February 14

Posted on By No Comments on Bali Authorities Provide Clarity on Exemptions from New Tourist Fee Effective February 14

Beginning February 14, the Bali government will exempt foreign visitors from seven categories of the IDR 150.000 (approximately USD 9.58) tourist levy that is required to enter the island province.

Ida Ayu Indah Yustikarini is the Head of Tourism for the Bali Province Tourism Office, located in Denpasar. She said that these tourists are required to apply and meet the criteria set forth in the Love Bali System.

Exemptions are granted to foreign tourists who possess diplomatic or official visas. They also include crew members in vehicles and those with temporary or permanent stay permits. The exemptions also apply to those who have visas for family unification, Golden Visas and student visas.

According to Bali Governor’s Reg. 36 of 2023 regarding the Payment Procedures for foreign Tourist Levy (Bali Governor’s Regulation No. 36), applications for exemptions must be submitted at minimum one month before arrival in Bali. The regulation further specifies that the local tourism authority will review and decide on the applications within a maximum of five working days, with the outcome communicated to applicants via the Love Bali system at lovebali.baliprov.go.id.

Yustikarini stated that upon approval, the Love Bali System will issue an exemption notice in the form a QR code for the foreign tourist. The levy is initially collected at international arrival terminals I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, and Benoa Port in Bali. You can pay through travel agencies, hotels and tourist attractions.

This tax is in place under Law Number 15 from 2023 regarding Bali Province, and its implementation regulation, Regional Regulation Number 6 from 2023 on Levy for Foreign Tourists. Its purpose is to protect Bali’s culture and environment .

The levy is used to support the preservation of Balinese traditions, customs, arts, cultures, and local wisdom as well as the conservation and management of cultural and natural tourism attractions. It also improves service quality, guides the management and implementation of cultural tourism and helps guide the management and implementation of foreign tourist levies.
