Budi Karyasumadi, Indonesia’s Minister of Transportation, , has revealed detailed plans , for Bali’s Light Rail Transit System (LRT).

Budi Karya says that the Bali LRT is urgently needed to relieve Bali’s traffic jams.

Budi Karaya, in a Sunday statement, said that “Bali is a showcase for international tourism and traffic congestion is a problem. It could have a negative impact if we do not address it.”

The Balinese Provincial Government leads the way with a 51 percent stake, while the central government contributes the remaining 49 percent.

The Bali Provincial Government is prioritizing Phase 1 of the Bali LRT. This phase will cover 5.3 km and connect I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport with Seminyak through Central Parkir Kuta.

Construction on Phase 1 is expected to begin in 2024, and will take about three years. The line will be extended to Mengwitani from Seminyak in Phase 2.

Bali’s long-term goal is to create a comprehensive system of public transportation, which includes the LRT. This initiative aims to reduce Bali’s dependency on private cars and motorbikes by addressing issues such as traffic congestion, pollution and accidents.
