The governor of Bali has written a letter to Indonesian ambassadors asking for their help in informing potential tourists about Bali’s new tourism tax.
Bali’s authorities wants visitors to know exactly what they can expect from them when they visit the island.
To avoid misbehaving tourists, released a list of Dos and Don’ts that visitors should follow.
Tourism officials claim that visitors can pay an arrival fee within 23 seconds.
In busy times, there may be an extra line to pay the tourism tax in addition the the line for stamping passports by immigration officials.
Officials will manually verify who has paid by scanning QR codes.
It is easier and quicker for travelers to pay their tourism tax before they visit Bali online. This will only be necessary once, so that they can present their tourism tax voucher at the Bali airport.
The new tourism levy is payable by all foreign visitors in the province. This can be done online, at the Bali Airport or at the hotels and resorts.
Support for International Development
Jo Stevens is the Australian Consul-General in Denpasar in Bali. She is for the imposition of an international visitor tax on Bali. The foreign visitor tax will be implemented in Bali from February 14, 2024 and costs IDR 150 Thousand (about USD 9.54) per person.
Stevens said in Sanur and Denpasar last week that the levy is good for culture, waste management, respecting Balinese customs, religious aspects, and Balinese cultural values.
Matthew Downing is the British Deputy ambassador to Indonesia. He also supports the levy. He claimed that the levy was used to support regional projects.
Other cities and countries have implemented a tourist tax
Amsterdam
Hotel room taxes have increased from 7 to 12 percent and cruise fare has gone from 8 to 11 euros in this city.
Barcelona and Valencia
Spain charges upto 3.25 Euros per night for each tourist.
Bhutan
In this country, adult visitors are required to pay a daily fee of $100 USD. Children must pay $50 USD.
Venice
From 2024, this city will also charge a fee for tourists.
The price per person per night can range from 1 euro to 5 euros, depending on where you are staying, the type of accommodation, the classification, the season, etc. (high season runs from February 1 until December 31, low season from January 1 till January 31).
